((Author's note: this post occurs perhaps an hour after this particular post. Senka picked up the cub and headed for town at a brisk pace the Ursus cub not liking it’s position but Senka’s hold on it kept it from squirming too much. I just didn't know if Senka wanted me hijacking the thread, though I am open to copypasta'ing it in if he and the Spuddy want to make a big collab.)) A rhythmic shuddering ran through the ground for a league ahead of them. People could be forgiven for thinking it an earthquake, but soon the siege golems entered into view, their gigantic feet stirring large dust clouds as they came. A closer inspection revealed individuals riding, both seated and standing, on the armored pauldrons of the golems. The lead golem bore a flag with the Echoes' crest (a sight that much relieved the wariness of any sentinels!) and the trailing ones that of a brown, smiling angelic cookie on a field of teal. The behemoths marched up to the Echoes' clan hall, then knelt with a cacaphonic hiss of hydraulics to allow their passengers to disembark and enter the hall, led by a short but purposeful dwarf in white plate mail. As they entered, Jhaelle started rattling orders. "Feleene, take Sabylene and Avvie to th' clinic and see what ye might help with." Without watching the elf, dark elf, and human take to the hallway, she turned to look at the several others. "Torielle, Salerna, bring in th' soul bottles, as we be needin' 'em. Shinnae, take Miellie and Liennie with you and start getting th' workshop into order fer some proper craftin'. Niallia, get th' still ready fer brewin'. It's been quiet here for far too long." She suddenly grinned. "Let our hammers ring out once more!" The others returned their mistress's grin with enthusiasm, and let out a few whoops and cheers. Jhaelle watched them set about to their appointed tasks energetically. It had been far too long, but now she, they, were here. They were home. It was time to light the fires in the forge. It was time to get to work.

The commotion was enough to rouse the Celebrant from her studies. Deep from beneath stacks of parchment and books rolled scrolls were cast off and slender, dark arms emerged, clutching at the edge of the desk to pull herself from the so-very-comfortable chair. It had been remade, stuffed with the feathers of angels from throughout the land, and it was glorious. She was almost sad to leave it behind.
Her eyes had already seen the golems approaching, shadows whispering through the nothing to her, and she moved to stand in the doorway to her study, watching the chaotic motion take shape with a smile.
The dwarves were back, she mused. Finally, we can put our plans to action.

Despite keeping out of the way as she had, Olorae still managed to attract Jhaelle's attention. A quick flurry of emotion crossed the little dwarf's face in but the span of a heartbeat, before she was able to contain them again. A nod as she clanked her mailed fist off her gleaming breastplate were followed by a respectful "Celebrant."
Jhaelle's attention was diverted by the crash and howl of pain at the doorway. The twins, Hyanne and Keinna, were attempting to wrestle in a large contraption of metal and wood. The twin with the bubblegum pink pigtails, Keinna, was shaking the tingles from her hand where it had been smashed against the jamb.
"Hy! Kei!" Jhaelle roared, finger waving dangerously. "I tol' ye ta be careful wi' that soulshot dispenser! It's nary even as wide as th' blasted door! Ye break it, an' I'll be makin' ye fix an' recalibrate it! An' ye'll get no stout fer a blasted month!"
The twins blanched at the threats, and quickly got back to trying to maneuver the device through the door and down the hall toward the workshop.
Jhaelle squeezed here eyes shu and pinched the bridge of her nose. "Couplea days, then business as usual." She looked up and yelled down the hallway after the twins, and for the benefit of any other Cookie in earshot. "Provided ye can all pull yer 'eads outta yer arses an' do it right!"

The celebrant chuckled to herself, staying well back and clear of the waist-high chaos. She dipped her head in a nod, smiling to Jhaelle. The clan hall would not be the same, but that was alright by her. It was time for change anyway.
~The dwarves have returned,~ she thought, reaching out through the ether to her wife. ~Perhaps we should see to stretching their legs some.~

The dancer paused briefly in her exercises as her beloved's voice stroked her mind. She cracked a smile and sent a reply as she sheathed her swords and picked up her bow and quiver, ~Wonderful! You need the exercise.~ She laughed softly and broke into a run down the mountain and back to Aden.
Things were starting to feel right again.

In point of fact, it was the very next day that saw the dwarves back to work. It sounded almost normal to hear the periodic noise of rhythmic tapping of metal on metal, or metal on wood, coming from inside the workshop. The little warsmiths sang as they worked, their voices penetrating the shut heavy wooden doors to be heard in the hallway beyond.
"Blasted 'way or a broken 'head, Soon th' uglies be all dead! Take their stuff 'n make it ours, Turn it into metal bars, Smelt it down t' weapons strong T' kill more uglies all day long!"
The little Maestra, Jhaelle, puttered in the hallway with her newest bit of furniture for the clan's hallway. The large wooden box stood taller than Spudnik, and stained glass panels were fitted into its front. Enchanted interior parts lit the glass from behind, throwing colored light into the hallway and allowing one to observe that they depicted the various qualities of soul and spirit shots. An open tray at the bottom of the device served as a catch basin and dispensary.
After mashing a glass plate, she listened to the machine whirr and click, then the sound of something sliding down a metal chute into the dispenser bin. She picked up the golden soulshots and nodded in satisfaction. Jhaelle pulled a screwdriver from her belt pouch and attached a metal plate to the front of the device, and after she finished and walked back into the workshop (the volume of the crafting songs increasing while the door was open) the plate could be read.
"WARNING! DO NOT STRIKE! Dwarves not responsible for any detonation and death resulting from assaulting a box full of explosives."
Okay, then.

A letter is posted in the Echoes hall bulletin board. beside it are posts for sale and trade, some are wanted posters, and some are recipes for stew.
this one is much larger than the rest, scrawled in large unwieldy letters with what can only be described as the cut end of someone's severed finger.
at least it is brief in its message and easy to understand. "Sel Mahums Must Perish, large reward" signed Spudnik
well then, no time to waste. Jhaelle and Chaitea set out, determined to claim this large reward, already spending it before it is earned.
the sel mahum valley ran south of oren, along its border. the two dwarves ran down the steep road and around the hill to the southern slope to meet Spudnik. he sat on the side of the hill, a very very large and heavy polearm stuck in the earth beside him. his green armor gleamed, and his polearm flashed in the glint of sunlight.
"you are here for the bounty then" he boomed.
"You betcha!" they both said in unison.
"then stay out of my way" he bluntly continued, reaching his great green arms for his weapon. "i do not wish to miss."
a deft kick of his heel caused him to lunge over the slope of the hill and into the middle of an army of sel mahum scouts, swordsmen and troopers. he let a wild and harrowing bellow and swung his weapon ferociously, causing tremors in the earth, slicing mahums clean in half.
the eyes of the dwarves widened in awe, and in understanding. the green monster never took what he killed. never paused for a breath, never hesitated in his relentless assault. the dying mahum squealed in pain and anger. most of the bodies were mangled but all of them were still, as far as the dwarves could tell, perfectly lootable.
corpse upon corpse left a few handfuls of adena, all had valuable necklaces and jewelry. the orc killed faster than the dwarves could pick up, and the sack of loot grew so large it took both dwarves' full might to haul it. none of the valuables could be left behind.
after an hour the trail of blood and corpses now stretched on over a mile. the dwarves had never seen such a massive reeking pile of death. it began to stink. the once green Spudnik now stood a stained blackened red.
the mahum were vanquished. the ten ton polearm that cleaved a million corpses was bent and broken. Spudnik was breathing heavy.
as they walked sorely up the steep road to oren Spudnik too was helping drag the massive loot bag. The orc grunted to set the bag down near on of the elfs. insodoing the elf let a blessing part his tight lips; the two dwarves felt a surge of power through their fingertips and the bag of jewellery vanished. Jhaelle grasped her axe and felt it much lighter than before; Chaitea gripped cunningly her two daggers and twirled them in a flourish. the elf had summoned ten treasure boxes and commanded them to open each one and take the first thing they saw.
that sneaky Spudnik.
