It wasn't supposed to end like this.
Dachande was lost in thought and reflection as he stood on the alcove of his hidden sanctuary just behind the upper regions of Anghel Waterfall. This place was his safe zone, his place of refuge whenever he felt weak and overwhelmed and needed to retreat to collect himself again. This was also where he met his beloved Jeswarai who by coincidence made her living quarters as well. Hers was the first face he saw when he awakened from his deep sleep after his supposed death. It was she who held him when the black crystal that held his body shattered. It was she who gave herself willingly to him that night and pledged herself to his cause.
Together we were unstoppable.
She traveled with him across Aden, fighting and killing by his side. They were a unique pair, perfectly matched for eachother in both heart and spirit as well as fighting skill. Everything they did, every move they made complemented one another, they drew their strength from eachother and together they overcame the obstacles that stood in their way.
Where did we go wrong?
Then came the dark day where the took her to the Hall of Echoes with him, his first mistake. Neither human or kamael could have known what awaited them there. The trial, the enslavement and then the lashes. Still even as she was punished she remained strong. He remembered those crimson eyes locked right on him even as she took her lashes, she did not cry out nor did she succumb to her wounds. She would carry on with him, their destinies were intertwined.
How did this happen?
The days that followed however took their toll on them. After her enslavement they were separated and given separate missions. It was almost as if it were done purpose. He saw her less and less, yet he still held on to her image, her words and her promise. He trained hard with the hope that he would jump through the hoops the council has set up for him and see his beloved again. This was his final mistake, he should never have allowed himself to be separated from her.
I failed you.
The months that passed strengthened him, his sojourn allowed him to develop his powers as a Dark Avenger and awaken his Necromantic ambitions. Yet as he returned to the Hall of Echoes he was given news that shattered his entire world. Jeswarai's death was a severe blow, a mortal wound that sapped all of his strength and willpower. He died with her that day, however, that death also brought rebirth. Like a Dark Phoenix he rose from his ashes, a thing of misery and pain, of malice, hatred and unbridled rage. The Celebrant gave him a target and he went after it without question. He destroyed countless souls, taking great care to make sure they suffered before he granted them their final descent into oblivion. Whether they were responsible for Jeswarai's death or not he did not care, all he knew that he needed to destroy and that only blood would drown his pain. Months passed since then and still he felt empty, weak and alone. He tried to recreate her but even that failed, Jeswarai was gone....forever.
It wasn't supposed to end like this.
Dachande shivered slightly as a foamy spray from the waterfall coated his exposed flesh. He looked down at the pool of water several feet below and his mind wandered to more recent events. Has it finally happened? Was he going insane from grief? He could have sworn he saw her in Goddard, even chased after her but each time he got to her she would call out his name and vanish. He broke down in the middle of the city when it was too much to bear. To have her appear like this, to be this close to her only for her to disappear again. This was his punishment for not being there when she needed him the most, his own mind would never let him forget and her ghost would torment him until he himself was destroyed.
"Forgive me....." He found himself whispering into the wind. "I should have never left you alone." It was a horrible feeling, to have lost something you truly loved and even worse to know that he failed to protect her like he promised. He turned finally and stepped back into the cave complex. He needed to sleep and move on to the next phase of his punishment. He wondered how he would watch her die this time.....
Forgive me.
((heh this post was sort of inspired when I was listening to this tune))
