The doors to the library opened and Kuros turned to see the familiar form of the Kamael head his way. No doubt to tell him her farewell and all. Four....three....two....one and here we... His countdown was suddenly cutoff by her voice.
"Here this is for you." She thrust the letter into his hands making brief contact with his eyes before giving him a nod and moving fast away. "I will go about the town, to see if I find a few tings I need.....I will meet you later."
Meet me later? Kuros stood there with a mild look of confusion on his face. Something gave him a chill down his spine when she said those words and he looked down at the letter. He hurriedly opened it and read it, his face growing pale as he continued.
Greetings to you, Lord Stormblade,
I would like to take this time to thank you for the safe return of our honored Lithillia. What you and your men did was of great service to us and your actions shall be remembered among our people. We are most fortunate that fate would have it she landed in the company of the Silver Shield instead of the enemy's hands. The gods only know what kind of damage it would have done were the latter to occur. This young lady spoke highly of you, though she may be confused I believe deep down somewhere, she trusts you.
This is why I am asking you to perform another service to our kin as well as more personally to me. I ask that you take Lithillia with you as a representative of our people, to live among the Silver Shield atleast long enough until she recovers completely and is able to continue on her mission. I believe that you are most suitable for this task and her time among you and your soldiers will do her some good. Do this for me young lord and I shall be in your debt.
Sincerely,
Heirarch Kekropus
Kuros let his hand that held the letter drop to the side and then he sighed. He cursed silently, why now? Why all this? The girl would only get in the way. Why can't her own people take care of her? He walked over to the balcony that overlooked the town square and leaned on it to observe the crowds far below.
"You seem disappointed." Came a voice from behind the human.
Kuros turned, his eyes widening only for a split moment to see the elder Kamael standing before him. Kekropus! He regained his composure almost immediately. "Heirarch." His voice was polite and respectful, he dipped his head down and brought his arm over his chest to address the being properly.
"It's about her, isn't it?" The Heirarch's question struck him like a giant hammer. Kuros' face paled slightly.
"Sir?" It was all the defense the ambushed Kuros could put up at the moment.
"I may be an old man, but I have not lost any of my wits just yet, lad." Kuros saw the smile on his face. Was the Heirarch able to see right through him? To be able to read him like this as if he were an open book.
"I know she can be a handfull to handle but have patience with her young lord. She is a fine soldier, she's just not herself yet." The elder kamael continued to speak. "Treat her well as if she were one of your own soldiers and win her trust." He felt the man's hand on his shoulder. "Do that and you shall find that she will serve you well and her loyalty will be unshakable."
"I understand sir, thank you." Kuros replied and kept his gaze down. He felt like a cornered rat before the elder with nowhere to escape. "You have much to learn as well, but I have faith in you that you will succeed." With that the elder turned and left the human to his own devices.
Kuros turned back around and sighed, this was a most uncomfortable meeting and it wasn't even all that formal. There was something about Kekropus. The elder kamael knew something that he did not, and the way he spoke to him, was Kekropus truly aware of who he was? But if so why did he not do anything about it? The thought did not bode well with him. He closed his eyes for a moment and just let himself rest for a while, he would have to play his cards very carefully from now on.
